Are maths300 lessons open-ended?

Many maths300 lessons are open-ended, but not all of them. What sets maths300 apart is that it models the approaches of 'real-life' mathematicians: the story shells are designed to pique students' interest so that they want to tackle the problem. In some lessons, students are encouraged to choose their own direction for problem-solving. In other lessons, they are gently nudged towards a particular method. While open-endedness is a valuable feature, maths300 also uses tools such as group work, integrated software, estimation and first hand data.

The companion software is not working. How do I fix it?

Re-read the notes in Software Download. If you still have a problem running the software then please contact us.

Is there a quick list of all lessons with software?

You can limit your lesson search by using the Advanced Lesson Search. Set the attributes in the drop down boxes to All Levels and All Strands, but choose only the Software (Companion) button in Lesson Features. The search engine will provide the current full list of software lessons.

I'm having trouble printing from the web. Can you help?

Printing directly from a web browser can be problematic: it can disrupt layout and produce problems with graphics and tables. The best way to overcome this problem is to copy the content into a word processor, such as Microsoft Word. For more instructions see our Pictures and Printing page.

What's the best way of recording students' software results (e.g. for assessment)?

It can be useful to observe and record students' methods as they work through a lesson. However, a permanent record of students' results is useful for assessment purposes. The best way to do this is to have students open their personal electronic maths journal in a word processor before they start a software experiment. As they work, they can paste results and screen dumps into their document. For more detailed instructions, see Recording Students' Work and Alternative printing techniques.
